Explore an authentic living Maori village atop a geothermal plateau during this guided tour. Learn how they use geothermal resources to cook, bathe and heat their homes, view the iconic Pohutu Geyser, devour a corn cob cooked in a hot pool and take in a number of historical landmarks and buildings.
Experience the magnificence of a geothermal landscape and the unique experience of a traditional Maori village with a visit to Whakarewarewa, located in Rotorua. Led by the direct descendants of the early Maori guides, you will discover where people live on a daily basis and how they use natural geothermal resources to cook, bathe and heat their homes as they have for centuries. You'll view the world-famous Pohutu geyser, boiling mud-pools, steam vents and bubbling pools, and admire historical landmarks and buildings including the WWII Memorial Archway and tapu (sacred) burial grounds. To top off the tour, you'll enjoy a corn on the cob cooked in the largest hot pool in the village.
