RedBalloon has a selection of the most exciting and professionally-run high ropes and ziplining courses. Catering to all ages and fitness levels, you’ll find they present differently graded challenges at heights that tower above ground level and the chance to tackle multiple obstacles from Indiana jumps and crossed logs to wrecking balls and Tarzan jumps.
And, of course, then you’ve got the exhilaration of riding the zipline, getting a rush at speeds as high as 60km/h.
Fun, dynamic and rewarding, it’s a great way to embrace the great outdoors. Ideal for groups, birthdays and office team-bonding events, a day out ziplining also makes for a great action-packed gift idea.
As a general rule, most ziplining NZ adventures cater to all ages and athletic abilities. So there’s nothing to prepare as such other than making sure you wear the right clothing. As always, however, we recommend you check with each particular venue’s terms and conditions in case of a special requirement.
It’s important you wear the right clothes to stay safe and avoid injury. First, be sure to wear long, reasonably close-fitting, comfortable clothes with closed-toed shoes. It’s probably also a good idea to lather on the sunscreen – and the insect repellent! Lastly, if you have long hair, you’ll want to make sure it’s all tied up – so as not to risk it getting caught or tangled as you swing through the air on those ropes!
There are many great spots to go for ziplining across New Zealand amidst the rugged wilderness, crisp, clean air and spectacular scenery.
Starting with perhaps the most obvious destination, Queenstown – renowned as one of the adventure capitals of the world – offers thrilling opportunities to take to the treetops on uniquely exciting high-ropes and ziplining courses. These adventures take you through native forests and across spectacular waterways with dazzling views of Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables in the background.
Dare yourself to take on the world’s steepest tree-to-tree zipline, which drops 30 storeys in just 10 thrilling seconds – or feel the buzz of shooting through the Kawarau Gorge at speeds of up to 60km/h on one of three 130-metre zip rides. In addition, high ropes courses are ideal for beginners who want to traverse and conquer suspended tunnels, swinging logs, Japanese steps and giant nets.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the country, the Coromandel Peninsula offers high-flying rope action on an eight zipline canopy tour of the kauri forest. Catch a ferry from Auckland, then ride the iconic Driving Creek Railway – New Zealand’s steepest mountain railway – which will take you to this ziplining haven where you can glide through the treetops.
And, in Rotorua, you can combine a ziplining adventure in a package with the best adventure experiences around, like a ride on the cable car and luge.
The ziplining operators provided on RedBalloon have been selected based on their ability to provide their experience safely. All suppliers featured have outstanding safety records and go to significant efforts to ensure that your ziplining is conducted with safe equipment and processes.
Note that, of course, even when you’re high up at 30m above the ground, you’ll be securely clicked into the safety line. It might be a thrilling adventure – and maybe, yes, a little nerve-jangling – but a very safe one that’s ideal for all ages and abilities.
