Spend the day exploring the splendour of Rangitoto Island, floating majestically off the coast of Auckland. Hop on a return ferry journey and choose your own adventure, walking through lava fields and native forests to the summit for epic views, and discovering magnificent lava caves.
Only a short ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Rangitoto Island is one of the most iconic features of the city's splendid skyline with its distinctive symmetrical cone, rising 260 metres over the Hauraki Gulf. If you're a keen hiker, then this day trip on the island is a must during your next visit to Auckland. After a 25 minute ferry ride, you'll have the entire day to explore its splendour at your own pace. Take on the most popular walk, The Summit Track, that winds through lava fields and native forest to the peak, offering panoramic views of the Hauraki Gulf across to Auckland. As a side walk, you can choose to explore the island's lava caves, but remember a torch as they can be quite dark!
