Packed with things to see and do, for beginners, families and anyone looking for a slower, more scenic trip down the river, this grade 2 level rafting adventure is a great introductory experience that will get you and the kids away from the screens and into the great outdoors.
Just 30 minutes from Wellington you'll find this relaxing, scenic float on Te Awa Kairangi where you'll be able to travel approximately 6 km between Birchville and Totara Park/Whakatikei Park (flow dependent) in the beautiful Hutt Valley, Wellington. Starting at the top of the grade two section, you'll learn how to paddle before being guided through easy and fun rapids, taking the opportunity to stop for photos by a cascading waterfall and hop in the water for a lazy swim. Along the way, you will be able to enjoy the rock jumps at Maori Bank, take in the astonishing scenery and even attempt some of the exciting little rapids. A perfect way to spend the day with your friends or family as well as being ideal for first-time rafters, this experience is a great way to build up confidence before trying the grade-three wilderness trip! This roughly two-hour excursion will encourage you and the family to get outdoors and away from screens, exactly what you want from a bonding experience.
Not recommended for travellers with back problems, heart problems, or other serious medical conditions. Not recommended for pregnant travellers.
The minimum number of clients per trip is four; please contact us if you have fewer individuals to book as we may be able to add you to a booking. Please contact us regarding bookings for large groups to ensure availability.
Spectators can farewell and welcome travellers at the beginning and end of the trip. There are walkways along the river banks, and bridges passing over the river, so plenty of opportunities for spectators to watch your rafting ride.
The river flow is dependent on rainfall, so previous weather may influence the trip. In the event that the river flow is too low, we will be unable to raft. Additionally, we cannot run river trips if the river flow is too high. We will let you know if the conditions on the day are not suitable. We run river tours all year round (even during winter rain!) - you'll be warm in our river gear regardless of the weather.
We provide all the river gear to keep you warm and safe on the river, however you will need to bring a towel and something to wear under your wetsuit. We do not recommend wearing cotton items as these will keep you cold when they get wet.
This experience takes place in Upper Hutt, NZ.

That’s 10% of the Australian population! When we started ‘doing’ experiences in 2001, Facebook didn’t exist; the iPod had just been invented; John Howard was Prime Minister; and Destiny's Child were popular (yikes!). We’ve been at this business of experiences for quite a while, so put your trust in us to show you a good time.
