Head on an adventurous day out in the beautiful Pohatu Bay with this ancient forest hike and kayaking combination tour. Perfect for those looking for an active day out, this tour immerses you in the natural environment of the bay.
After being picked up in Akaroa, you’ll be transferred by 4WD to the starting line of a 3-hour hiking trail at a regular relaxed pace. You’ll be provided with a map and instructions before heading off on this self-paced scenic walk through the ancient red beech tree forest. Enjoy a stroll down part of the Banks Track, through tree ferns, all the way to Pohatu Bay. Discover waterfalls along the way, listen to native bird songs and visit the prehistoric forest of Tutakakahikura scenic reserve with trees over 400 years old.
After arriving at Pohatu Bay, you’ll have access to the communal kitchen and bathroom facilities before getting fitted with all your kayaking equipment. You’ll head off on the guided kayak tour around 12:45 pm, where you’ll get to explore the beautiful pristine waters of the bay and watch the magnificent marine wildlife below. Your knowledgeable guide will provide you with fascinating insights into Pohatu Bay's flora and fauna.
