Step outside your comfort zones and see what all the hype is about! Experience the lower section of the Sleeping God Canyon in the Coromandel's Kauaeranga Valley during this half day experience, jam packed with waterfalls, abseils, jumps and swims.

Departing from Thames, this half day canyoning adventure at the Sleeping God Canyon in the Coromande's Kauaeranga Valley will leave you feeling completely knackered, with your adventure barometer spilled over, belly satisfied (lunch is included), happy and feeling like you did something pretty amazing!
You’ll hike up to the start point of your canyoning adventure where you ditch the bags and get into the canyoning gear - a wetsuit, harness and helmet. With your excitement and nerves building, you’ll head off adventuring down the canyon. There’s waterfalls to explore, and be prepared to abseil and jump your way down. (The jumps are optional if you can’t quite psych yourself up for it.)
The Thames/Coromandel region is rich in both Maori and European history, and your guides will endeavour to share that history with you as you weave your way through the adventure. The geology of the area is spectacular in itself as the volcanic rock offers a great platform for steep waterfalls and cliff faces to marvel at and of course play in!
At the end of the day you will feel like you need a good feed, a hot shower, your favourite beverage and a good night’s sleep!
You'll also receive photos from your guides who have been capturing all your adventures on camera throughout the day.
Session Length
- Commences at 9.30am and returns at approximately 2.30pm (depending on group size)
Guidelines
- Minimum age 12 years
- A minimum of three people are required for this experience to go ahead
- Participants must be moderately fit - e.g. be able to go bush walking or skiing for a day
- Participants should not be heavily overweight or suffer from serious health problems such as heart complaints or significant back complaints. All medical issues must be declared when checking in and also when asked by your guides
Cancellation
- Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
Numbers on the Day
A minimum of three people are required for this experience to go ahead.

This provider is the only to have the Department of Conservation concession to operate The Sleeping God canyon — big abseils, big jumps, slides, zip-lines and more. All guides are experienced outdoor adventure guides who are qualified in advanced vertical rope skills and risk management to ensure you are kept safe the entire trip.
This experience takes place at the Sleeping God Canyon in the Kauaeranga Valley, Coromandel.
