Get set for a day of fun on this one-hour scenic cruise of Tauranga Harbour in the Bay of Plenty, with a cool hop off/hop on option at Matakana Island offered at no extra cost for morning cruises. Cruise past the white sands and headland of Mt Maunganui, consistently voted New Zealand's best beach, past coastal forest, small village settlements, and islands. Essentially two flooded lakes, Tauranga Harbour is vast and dazzling, with an ever-changing landscape and a huge working port. Spot penguins, small NZ fur seals, white-fronted terns, oystercatchers, red billed gulls and other sea birds, and admire the Statue of Tangaroa, the Maori God of the Sea perched along the harbour foreshore. For those on morning cruises, pack swimmers and some lunch to make the most of the Matakana Island hop off option. This barrier island is the ideal spot to spend a couple of hours sunning, swimming and exploring the 20-kilometre stretch of sandy beach before catching an afternoon cruise back to shore.
